Well whaddya know?! It has now been TEN years since one of my favorite games of all time was released on this day in Japan, which was before the US and UK release dates obviously but I digress. That's right folks, i'm talking about F-Zero GX! Even after ten years, I still play this game for fun and even after beating it and unlocking everything TWICE (on seperate memory cards no less) I still enjoy playing it and i've never once found it boring. I was even planning on recording a playthrough of the story mode on very hard and uploading it to youtube or something but I wasn't able to due to time constraints and the fact that I do not own any capture equipment, which bums me out big time, but the least I could do is spread the word.
So happy 10th anniversary GX! There may not be a new F-Zero game for a long while but i'm still happy knowing that my copy of you still works and that i'll still be playing you for years to come.
So to anyone reading this and is also a fan of the game, I ask you to name your favorite character, machine, track, character theme, track theme, story mode chapter, interview question, and character ending. I'll start:
Favorite character: Draq- I could never really pinpoint why but i've always liked Draq. I think it's because he's a really big guy but he's also really humble and he's not really racing for the sake of his ego or that he has a grudge against someone like most characters do. He just wants to race so he could win the prize money and use it to buy his own machine so he can race some more. It shows that he's just a huge fan of the F-Zero competition and he just wants to continue to be a part of it. It could also be the fact that some aspects of him remind me of myself, especially the whole him being humble thing.
Favorite machine: Fire Stingray or any machine with a low grip- I've always liked using the Fire Stingray mostly because that it's only problem was its acceleration. But once it gets going, it's pretty hard to stop since it has a high top speed, easy handling, and is heavy enough to not get knocked around so easily. I also like to use machines with a low grip rating, especially machines like Night Thunder. Constantly swerving and fighting to keep control just makes the game more fun for me especially when you get a lot of speed for drifting on the acceleration setting which seems to be more effective the lower the grip rating is.
Favorite track: Casino Palace- Double branches- I like almost all of the tracks in this game but my top pick usually goes to double branches, mostly because the way it's designed allows me to show off how well I can handle curves at top speed and how fast the game is in general.
Favorite character theme: Super Arrow's theme- Okay, the thing is, I like ALL the character themes, but the only reason I like Super Arrow's theme a bit more is because I just like singing along to it. A little known fact about me is that I like to sing so naturally I enjoy the themes that have lyrics in them but I like Super Arrow's theme the most cuz of the way you gotta project your voice when you sing along to it. I just wish it wasn't so short.
Favorite track theme: Aeropolis- Like with the character themes, I like ALL the course themes, but I decided to go with Aeropolis because I find the song relaxing yet tense enough to keep you focussed. Then when you get to the final lap, it just gets hype and it really gives you the sense that you just gotta GO GO GO!
Favorite Storymode Chapter- CH.8- I just like the whole showdown aspect of this chapter. I also really liked the track you race in here mostly because it's where I first learned how to get through sharp turns quickly with out losing speed.
Favorite interview question: Deathborn's message to the viewers- For those who don't know, he basically threatens that everyone is going to die and that they should say goodbye to their loved ones NOW! This was pretty much the only character interview that literally made me say "holy shit! That's badass!"
Favorite character ending: Pico's- I feel that this should be self explanatory to anyone who's watched it. Since it seems that everyone's ending seems to be humorous (even the villains, WTF!?) Pico's was the only one that was serious and I never got tired of watching him doing flips and shooting guns. And the way it ended was pretty badass as well.
